Jessi Saldana aka Tio Jessi...and let me tell you it took me almost a week to get the Tio Jessi joke. Man, am I slow sometimes.
I might be slow sometimes...when it counts (wink, wink), but Jessi’s skills in stand up comedy is not slow at all.
In three short years, he has risen to the top. The dude is like the cream in the Mexican coffee. He is crushing it.
Tio Jessi was a guest comedian on our last Crafts & Laughs comedy show right before things got super crazy with the coronavirus. I was even contemplating shutting the show down.
But I am glad I didn’t. Jessi got up there and laid down an epic set. He crushed it. It was even hard for the two other comedians to follow. But they did.
As soon as he got off stage, I knew we had to link up for the podcast. And here we are.
In the interview, we dive into Jessi’s upbringing in small town Texas, about an hour or so outside of Houston.
In high school, he got mixed up with the “tough” crowd. They were gang banging in small-town U.S.A. After he grew out of that phase and graduated high school, he started to hang out with his redneck friends from grade school.
He got roped into doing stupid shit that white people do. You know...jumping off a 15 foot bridge in the middle of the night, drunk, and into the water.
Jessi ain’t no fool, he never did it. But he got to hang out with the rednecks and drive their boats. It’s something about boats that brings everyone together.
Then he got a taste for comedy and gave it a shot. The rest is history.
Now, he’s crushing crowds and cashing drink tickets.
You are going to love this interview.
You don’t want to miss the closing story about how he ended up being named Jessi with an “i.” It’s fucking hilarious.
